Touching toes onto pavement

I quickly pull back

and my socks on

the hot cement

separated by a thin layer of striped cotton

my tender sole

tip toes slowly with its first step

lightly

gently

safely

and I start to put pressure on

taking a full stride

but the heat leaps

and strikes
